1. About Us | Design Glut
» About Us

We often get asked about our company name, and where it came from. We believe that we are living in a design glut. There is just too much stuff in the marketplace. This is our starting point. We don’t make things unless we truly believe there is a reason for them to exist. Our objects start conversations, cause you to crack a smile, add something meaningful to your life.

We use product design as a medium to convey messages. Design Glut has become known for creating witty, conceptual designs. We like to play with your perception – whether that means objects that play tricks with your eyes, or jewelry that questions the notion of value. We’re often inspired by current events and politics, leading to products like the Dow Jones Hanky and the Smoking Gun.

While Kegan and Liz, the founders, are practically the same person, there are some slight differences between the two. Here’s your guide to telling them apart:

KEGAN FISHER is a 24-year-old artist and designer based in New York, NY. Please note that her name is Kegan, and not Keegan, Keagan, Reagan, or Megan. The name Kegan means “little fiery one,” which everyone agrees is dead-on.

She has a hard time when asked where she’s “from” – she moved around a lot as a kid and lived many places. St. Louis is the answer she usually settles on. Kegan came to New York in 2003 to attend Pratt Institute, where she discovered and majored in industrial design. Right after school she went on to found Design Glut and is considered a rising star in the design world. In her spare moments she also finds time to paint (check her paintings out at keganfisher.com). She lives in the South St. seaport with her husband, a cat, and many carniverous plants.

LIZ KINNMARK is a 24-year-old designer based in Brooklyn, NY. She was born in Indiana and raised just outside Chicago – but she has been told that she was conceived in NYC, which explains a few things.

She spent the first half of college at Carnegie Mellon University, before falling hopelessly in love with New York and and transferring to Pratt Institute. At Pratt she designed the Egg Pants that would make her internet-famous. Upon graduating, she was overconfident enough to try to start a business with her friend Kegan. It’s been much harder than they ever could have realized, and also much more rewarding. Aside from design, her current obsession is contortionism, drawing on her previous career as a rhythmic gymnast. She hopes to join the circus one day.
