Doorknob Candlesticks / Time Out NY

As part of an article on DIY home decoration, Time Out magazine challenged us and 4 other designers to find new uses for everyday objects. Our assigned object: a standard doorknob.

After a quick trip to Home Depot to get our hands on a couple loose doorknobs, we decided that when they were turned vertically, they reminded us of the shape of old-fashioned candlesticks. How fun would that be?

We made a few changes to transform the doorknobs – taking out all the internal springs and mechanisms, capping the bottom, and drilling a hole in the top to fit a standard taper candle.

Voila! We transformed these stock, inexpensive knobs into elegant candlesticks that you’d be proud to show off.
